February 2001
Compared to January, February was pretty tame. We didn't go anywhere. Most of my efforts were devoted to starting the new semester.
At the end of the month, Sheila and I went to an Art Show in Palm Springs, where our friend, Francine Kohn, had a piece accepted in a pretty tough competition. Sheila was there with Francine for the opening of the exhibit and I came out the next day (after my classes) to join them and bring Sheila home.
February saw the arrival of http://eBabbie.com . This is primarily aimed at the development of sociological resources in support of my textbooks, but I couldn't resist creating a photo album for Evie. Check it out.
February 20th was a bad day for the planet. Dana Meadows, lead author
of The Limits to Growth and both articulate and relentless in her
protection of the environment, died of bacterial meningitis. Sheila
and I were friends with Dana and then-husband, Dennis, since the mid-seventies,
when we were particularly active in population and environmental issues in
Hawaii. We are all a little less secure now that Dana's gone, and we
all need to look into ourselves to find ways to make up for her loss.
