July 09, 2004 - Killarney

People often complain about the rain in Ireland, but on our most important scenery day, we had gorgeous weather.  This was also an advantage in that we began the morning with a horse and buggy ride through a forest to an old, stately mansion.  And while we weren't allowed to take photos inside the mansion, there was plenty of wandering and Kodak moments outside.

If you paid attention to our itinerary in getting to this page, you will have noticed the main event for today was called the Ring of Kerry trip.  We are in County Kerry (soon to be renamed Kerry-Edwards?), and the trip involved driving from Killarney out one side of the major penninsula in this area and back the other side, returning to Killarney.  My frustration is that none of these pictures will come close to reproducing the beautiful countryside, but perhaps they will give you some sense of it.  You can kind of get an idea of why Ireland is often called The Emerald Isle.

After returning to the hotel, I immediately went to work on the day's photos and this report.  If it is a bit hasty, it's because I've found an internet cafe in town and will try to send the past few journals out tonight.  Afterward, Sheila and I may go in search of a week dram of spirits in a local pub.
