July 21, 2004 - London to NYC

New York, New York, what a wonderful town.  We are back!  As Dorothy said, "There's no place like home."  Of course, we don't live in New York, but it feels like getting home.

Given all the things that could have gone wrong, today went quite smoothly.  We had a snack-breakfast in the hotel, took a shuttle bus to the airport terminal (much longer than we anticipated).  We checked into the airline easily and spent some time in the American Airlines lounge.

The flight was virtually perfect.  I got some work done and watched two movies on the little VCR at my seat.  We ate and drank a little too much, but it was a seven hour flight, after all.

JFK, while not as bad as Heathrow, was a mad house.  Evidently several flights arrived at once and we were herded through customs.  I wanted to take a picture but you do so at the risk of having your camera confiscated (or worse).

The cab ride into the city is pretty well represented by the picture to the right but was only about 45 minutes.

We are now settled into the Beekman Towers, immediately north of the United Nations.  We've stayed here before and like it a lot, so even that feels like coming home.

This will probably conclude my daily journals, and I'll go back to monthly summaries.  Hope you enjoyed taking the trip with us.  We enjoyed it a lot, but it's good to be back.
