June 21, 2004 - Bergen, Norway

This was a day for regrouping, getting re-acquainted with our BIG bags, and washing laundry.  By the time we finished our chores, it was raining off and on, so we went out for a quick view of the harbor area near our hotel, had lunch in a Chinese restaurant, and came home.  Here's a quick pic of our part of the city.  Day after tomorrow, we leave on a fjordcruise to our next location on a catamaran that leaves from the foreground of this picture, which is probably a five-minute (dragging heavy luggage) walk from our hotel.  [Nothing could go wrong. . .could go wrong. . .could go wrong. . .]

We took a little time off in honor of my cold (poor me, obviously not getting enough attention)--interrupted somewhat by the high-pitched warning horn and explosions in the tunnel they are digging right outside our window--and then ventured out for dinner.  When it started raining again (or when we saw the unbelievable prices in even the outdoor cafes along the waterfront--$40-50 for an entree), we came back to the hotel cafe and had what turned out to be our best meal of the trip so far.  We were also relieved to learn our hotel hadn't fallen into the tunnel.

We plan to tour more tomorrow (having bought 24-hour passes), and I should have more to report about the city then.
