| In addition to
writing on The Kingdom and
teaching my class, I've agreed to
facilitate a series of Town Hall meetings to give the Provost a chance
to discuss some planning ideas with the faculty and staff. So far, we
have
had some excellent discussions. I loved the metaphor of "town hall meetings," because March saw town meetings in small towns all over Vermont, and in the usually conservative Northeast Kingdom where my mom lives and where I have been going in the summer, some of the town meetings this year took on national issues. Calais: 94-22 to impeach Bush and Cheney Greensboro: 79-28 to impeach Bush and Cheney Craftsbury: 93-82 to impeach Bush and Cheney Hardwick: 59-51 for immediate withdrawal from Iraq (They decided not to vote on impeachment since they were so divided.) (Calais voted not to help East Montpelier pay for a new fire station, but that's another story. They did give $6000 to Woodbury's fire department.) |
